This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. We keep things plain and specific — no unnecessary legal padding.
Section 1

Who we are

Marine Scrap Africa is operated by MSA Green Technologies Limited, a company registered in Nigeria. When this policy refers to "we", "us", or "MSA", it means MSA Green Technologies Limited.

We are the data controller for personal information collected through the platform at marinescrap.africa and related subdomains. For questions about this policy or how your data is handled, contact us at .

Section 2

What personal data we collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

  • Account data — your name and email address when you register
  • Profile data — information you add to your account such as company name or contact preferences
  • Listing data — details you provide when creating a listing, including asset descriptions and photographs
  • Transaction data — records of deals, offers, payment references, and related communications conducted through the platform
  • Communication data — messages sent between users through the platform's inbox
  • Usage data — information about how you use the platform, including pages visited, features used, and actions taken
  • Device and technical data — IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers

We do not collect payment card details directly. Any payment processing is handled by third-party providers, which have their own privacy practices.

Section 3

How we collect it

We collect personal data in the following ways:

  • Directly from you — when you register, create a listing, send a message, or complete a deal on the platform
  • Automatically — through cookies and similar tracking technologies when you browse the platform (see Section 6)
  • Through analytics tools — we use Google Analytics to understand how the platform is used (see Section 5)
  • From third parties — if you sign in using a third-party service such as Google, we receive the data you authorise that service to share with us

Section 4

How we use your data

We use personal data for the following purposes:

  • to create and maintain your account
  • to publish and manage your listings
  • to facilitate and record transactions between buyers and sellers
  • to deliver platform communications including messages, deal updates, and listing notifications
  • to send transactional emails related to your account and activity
  • to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our terms
  • to analyse platform usage and improve features and performance
  • to comply with applicable legal obligations

We do not use your data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects without human review.

We will not send you marketing emails without your consent. If we introduce a newsletter or promotional communications in the future, you will be able to opt in separately and unsubscribe at any time.

Section 5

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymised information about how visitors use the platform. This helps us understand which pages are visited, how long users spend on them, where traffic comes from, and how features are used.

Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this data. The information generated is transmitted to and stored by Google on servers which may be located outside Nigeria. Google may use this data in accordance with its own privacy policy.

We have configured Google Analytics with IP anonymisation enabled, which means your IP address is truncated before being stored. We do not use Google Analytics to identify individual users or link analytics data to personal accounts.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking at any time by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. You can also manage your preferences through our cookie settings.

Section 6

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the platform and understand how it is used. Cookies are small text files stored on your device.

We use the following categories of cookies:

  • Essential cookies — required for the platform to function, including session management and security. These cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies — used by Google Analytics to collect anonymised usage data as described in Section 5. You can opt out of these.
  • Preference cookies — used to remember your settings and choices on the platform.

Full details of the cookies we use, their purpose, and how to manage them are set out in our Cookie Policy.

Section 7

Sharing your data

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only in the following circumstances:

  • With other users — your listing information and public profile details are visible to other registered users as part of the marketplace function. Your contact details are never shared without your consent.
  • With service providers — we use trusted third-party providers for email delivery, cloud hosting, analytics (Google Analytics), and authentication. These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • For legal compliance — we may disclose data if required to do so by law, court order, or regulatory authority, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of MSA, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers — if MSA Green Technologies Limited is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify affected users before any such transfer takes effect.

Section 8

How long we keep your data

We retain personal data for as long as is necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required by law.

  • Account data — retained for the duration of your account and deleted within 90 days of account closure, unless we are required to keep it for legal or regulatory purposes
  • Transaction records — retained for seven years in line with standard financial record-keeping requirements
  • Communications — messages and deal communications are retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period after account closure
  • Analytics data — aggregated and anonymised, retained as configured in Google Analytics (typically 14 months by default)

When data is no longer required, it is deleted or anonymised securely.

Section 9

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. These include encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and regular review of our security practices.

No system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that data transmitted over the internet will be free from interception. If you suspect your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at .

Section 10

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • Access — to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — to ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion — to request that we delete your data, subject to legal retention requirements
  • Restriction — to ask us to limit how we process your data in certain circumstances
  • Objection — to object to our processing of your data where we rely on legitimate interests
  • Portability — to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, to withdraw it at any time without affecting prior processing

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at . We will respond within 30 days. We may ask you to verify your identity before acting on a request.

You also have the right to raise a concern with a relevant data protection authority in your jurisdiction.

Section 11

Children

The platform is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Section 12

Third-party links

The platform may contain links to third-party websites, services, or resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties and encourage you to read their privacy policies before sharing any personal data with them.

Section 13

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Where changes are material, we will notify registered users by email or through the platform before they take effect. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update.

Continued use of the platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
